That's me, out on the ice of the Beaufort Sea, north
of the coast of Alaska. Winter 1980
Sea ice here has an avg. thickness of 5 feet. D7 Caterpillars
towing trailers on ski's, no problem.
I was responsible for feeding appx. 45 people working in oil
exploration for GSI Geopysical Research International.
I was working for Fortier Alaska, a catering company. I did
this for winter '79-80 and '80-81.
In the summer of 1980 I worked as an assitant mechanic for
Pearson Construction who was the maintenance contractor the same
camp I cooked for in winter.
Early Summer '81 I came down to Orgeon and bought a brand
new motorcyle, did a loop across country and back (through Canada
on the way back) and finally settled in Los Angeles to start
"The Great Alaskan Painting Company, Los Angeles Division"
with a friend. It was soon after that I got my big break assisting
photographers at a studio.
I've never been back to Alaska but look forward to a return
visit someday.
